The CARR is Here!
What's a CARR?
The Cares and Respite Room (CARR) may look like an ordinary bus, but it's not. The interior has been converted to an open space and outfitted with a changing table, equipment, and supplies that allow for personal cares, medication and nutrition administration, and other supportive services wherever needed and where similar facilities aren't available. Wheelchair-accessible and spacious enough for maneuvering, lifting, and reclining, the CARR is an accessible cares - and caring - room on wheels.
How does the CARR help?
The individual situations where the CARR can help are vast. The benefits usually include one or more of these:
Extended Community Time: Community engagement and integration are central to PAI's mission. Program participants travel to community destinations for work, volunteering, shopping, learning experiences, and engagement in a wide range of cultural and enrichment activities. The CARR extends the time we can be in the community by providing accommodations that are typically unavailable and/or extends the range of destinations we can reach. A one-hour visit can be extended to three or four hours, or a destination that was previously too far away becomes an option!
Space and Support: The CARR can be used at non-PAI events to support others in need of space and a wide range of personal care needs.
Privacy and Peace of Mind: Wherever it goes, the CARR brings functional space, equipment, and privacy, which means more people can relax as they access and enjoy more of what our community has to offer. The CARR is there, and that makes all the difference.
Can I support the CARR?
The CARR is a high-impact community resource. In addition to helping make programming at PAI better and more community based, it can be a resource to other people and organizations throughout our community. You can help support the maintenance, use and ongoing availability of the CARR for PAI folks and others in our part of the world. Please click below to donate to PAI now.
